Whilst we don’t want to (and shouldn’t) start complaining about any games that are being made available for free, it’s true that a lot of them can fall into the trap of duplicating common themes and story lines from one another. With that in mind, the team at Blog of Games have attempted to pick out some of best free RPGs for the PC that are available right now.

Warframe

Warframe – one of the best RPGs for the PC

It’s hard to believe that Warframe is free. It’s such a good game and has a massive amount of content for a free game. Warframe plays as a third person online action game with a gun-wielding, ninja-like combat system that feels like no other game before it.

It’s combat is probably it’s best feature, but there are a whole host of things that make Warframe one of the best free RPGs for the PC. For one the graphics are incredibly crisp and smooth and with every update and expansion, it seems that players get to explore a completely new and unique environment with lots to see and do.

Some gamers have complained that Warframe can feel a bit too grindy. While it’s true that there is a lot of grinding and looting, it never really feels like a drag. There are a number of different builds that you can try to master, too, so if one approach isn’t working for you, try switching it up to see if you have more luck.

Because the game is so vast in terms of the game mechanics, different builds, and movement system, so it might be best to watch a few online tutorials if you’re a beginner.

We’re confident that you’ll end up liking this, though, and it is certainly one to try if you’re in the market for one of the best free RPGs for the PC.

Neverwinter

Neverwinter – Opening scene

Neverwinter is a free-to-play online RPG that is part of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. This game was developed by Cryptic Studios and released in 2013 for Microsoft Windows.

In the game, the player can choose to become one of eight character classes from the Dungeon & Dragons series and traverse the city of Neverwinter with up to 5 other player characters. Due to the disappearance of the last Lord of Neverwinter, the city has been left in a state of disorder, leaving the remaining citizens forming factions in order to fight the rising dead.

This game has a vast world to explore, with seemingly endless amounts of quests on offer. Once the tutorial is completed, you are free to roam the map to explore and search for things to do, though you must occasionally check back in with one of the main NPCs, Sergeant Knox, in order to progress further into the game and discover more locations on the map.

One unifying advantage to the game is its impressive combat system. It has a fast and fluid action-based system in which the player can target their enemy and use left and right mouse click buttons to launch different attacks. The player can upgrade their combat abilities as they progress their level in the game and can gain supercharge and daily abilities that can be assigned to hotkeys ready for use. This game has an advance and rather complex crafting system that allows the player to forge useful items to use to their advantage.

This game does a great job of staying free-to-play (unless buying fancy looking mounts and companions are your thing) and is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for some of the best free RPGs for the PC. If you want to find out more about the game, follow the link here.

TERA

Tera – The Valkyon Federation

TERA – or The Exiled Realm of Arborea – is a free online RPG game developed by Bluehole Studio that was released in 2012.

This game is set in the realm of Arborea, which itself is a manifestation of the dreamland of two powerful titans, Arun and Shara, who encountered each other in a formless void (still with me?). As the two titans continued to sleep, their dreams began to come to life, leading to the formation of twelve god-like inhabitants and, subsequently, the first mortal inhabitants of Arborea.

The player can play as one of the seven races and aid in the war against outer-world foes. The character customization is not among the most advanced in comparison to other online RPG games, but it is certainly sufficient enough to create a unique looking character from the available race and class sets.

Like Neverwinter, TERA’s combat system is action-based. It is considered to be one of the best combat systems among games in this genre (helped by the games rather impressive graphics) and one that other games should aspire to emulate. Each class has their own weapon and armor set, and a unique power to give them an advantage over the other classes. This also leads to potential re-playability, as players often start the game over using a different character in order to explore the differing class traits.

TERA is a game that has stood the test of time quite well, reinforced by its constant population (despite it being on the small side). TERA is certainly a game worth checking out if you are looking for one of the best free RPGs for the PC. If you want to find out more about the game, follow the link here.

Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 – Path of Fire

Guild Wars 2 is, for me, THE best free online RPG game available for the PC right now. This game has already been included in our list of free open world games for the PC.

This game is set in Tyria, a large and diverse world with plenty of adventures and explorations to be had. Each player will have a unique gameplay experience in this game, with each part of the map allowing for different experiences and quests.

Like its predecessor, Guild Wars 2 offers the typical online RPG experience, with reward-based missions, quests and side quests, and an immersive and largely original folklore. One thing this game does well is to remove the monotonous button bashing killings of low level enemies when you find yourself in lower level environments. In Guild Wars 2, your level scales to that of the zone in which you are located, providing a constant challenge and a reason to keep upgrades and skills at their peak.

This game has decent graphics and the diverse landscapes that you are able to explore lead to some great screenshot opportunities. It is highly likely that you will get that increasingly rare feeling of RPG immersion with this game as you wander through the cities, forests, swamps, and icy cliffs (just to name a few landscapes).

The gameplay is cohesive and fluid, a feat which aids the combat system. If you’re familiar with online role playing games, the combat will offer you no surprises, attacking with hotkeys and upgrading through class systems to increase your array of attacks.

Player customization is another winning feature of this game, with users being able to choose from 5 races and 8 classes – each of them giving the player different perks and abilities. It is also possible to combine the archetypal online RPG roles (healer, tank, etc), making the combat tactical, diverse, and engaging.

Guild Wars 2 has been a victim of its initial launch day glitches and errors, a reputation has unfairly followed it around. Yet, this game offers some of the smoothest and finest gameplay that one can hope to play. For that reason, this game has to be considered for anybody looking for the best free RPGs for the PC available right now. You can find out more information about Guild Wars 2 here.

Skyforge

Skyforge – The Immortals

Skyforge often gets bad reviews among online RPG gamers, mainly due to the low population levels on the servers. Yet, if you can look past that, Skyforge is potentially one of the best games in its genre.

Players in Skyforge take on the role of an immortal being with devastating powers who becomes a deity whilst protecting the world from other hostile gods. This game differs from typical online RPGs in the sense that it does not contain a level-based system.Instead, the game has a ‘prestige’ system that enables the player to switch between the different available classes at any time, as opposed to being locked into any primary decisions of class choices. Whilst the game should be applauded for trying something different, I’m of the mindset of ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’. Yes, this system gets a little confusing along the line, but it doesn’t really take away from the gameplay.

The first thing that you notice when playing the game is that the graphics are truly stunning. This game has some of the most impressive visuals in the whole genre. This aspect lends itself well to other features of the gameplay. The character customization is wide-ranging and nice-looking, and the combat system is fluid and exciting. The attacks are very visually satisfying and it’s even possible to activate divine mode, which allows you to activate a powerful attack unleashing devastating damage.

This game is a great addition to the free online RPG game community, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed playing. Granted, the questing system and overarching story line is fairly standard, but I think that Skyforge still offers great possibilities for enjoyment and immersion. It is certainly worth checking out if you’re searching for the best free RPGs for the PC. To find out more, follow the find out more about Skyforge.

5 Free Games Like RuneScape – But Better? https://blogofgames.com/5-free-games-like-runescape-but-better/ Tue, 08 Dec 2020 13:37:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=313 RuneScape is a great game, there’s no disputing that. In fact, you could argue that is a unique experience within the MMORPG genre. That being said, there are plenty of similar games to RuneScape that you may enjoy if you’re a fan of the classic.

The games on this list all have their own charm, but will give you that fantasy MMO kick that you may desire. Here are 5 free games like RuneScape to play right now.

eldevin-mmo-gameplay-4078630 Eldevin MMO Gameplay

Eldevin is a charming MMORPG with a distinct style, smooth visuals, and a relaxing gameplay style that has the ability to completely immerse the player into the world.

In terms of games like old school RuneScape, Eldevin definitely has that old school graphic style that doesn’t take itself too seriously, while still being charismatic enough to keep players engaged.

With around 200 different skills to choose from 6 ‘Talent Trees’, you can mould your character to suit your preferred gameplay style, and engage in different strategies depending on your foe at the time.

In addition to an impressive PvP combat system, there are hundreds of quests to be found throughout the world as you travel through a universe of dungeons, cities, and other vibrant environments.

Developer Hunted Cow are onto a winner with this indie MMO, and while it may not be updated as much as some of the mainstream titles in the genre, they do a good job of keeping things fresh and exciting for their fanbase.

Play Eldevin online free.

ultima-online-gameplay-8105204 Ultima Online gameplay

Ultima Online (commonly known simply as UO) actually predates RuneScape, and many believe that UO was the inspiration for a lot of ideas that went into RuneScape.

The main strength of UO is its depth. This game has unbelievable depth and the combinations of skills that players can devise enables players to experiment with their own playing style or to use the set templates that are widely known in the game. Either way, you’re in for a treat in that department.

Related: The 5 Best MMOs for the PS4

Another way in which UO is a strong contender as one of the best free games like RuneScape is the community that it has. Not only are the different UO communities vibrant and well populated, but they are also experienced and, like a fine wine, have matured in wonderful ways over the years. It seems there’s always someone willing to help out for newcomers to the game and, conversely, there are a whole host of seasoned gamers who can provide a helping hand once you get a bit more advanced in the game.

The PvP aspect can be brutal at times, particularly if you’re on UO Outlands, but once you get the grip of things, the reward is well worth the time put in getting to a decent level.

All of this, combined with a phenomenally devised lore, and the fact that the game is free, Ultima Online is undoubtedly a solid choice for people looking for games like RuneScape

mabinogi-online-gameplay-1101938 Mabinogi online gameplay

If you happen to be a fan of both RuneScape and anime, Mabinogi may be just the game for you. Developed by devCAT studio, Mabinogi is a charming MMORPG that allows you to live a fantasy life with your unique self-created character.

The sense of community in the game is its biggest pull, and there is much content (not only combat) that enables you to interact with the Mabinogi population and experience the friendliness of the online community.

The character customization in Mabinogi is another one of its great strengths. You are not bound by a specific class from the outset. Rather, you can assign your ability points as you please upon levelling up and hone your skills based on how you feel is the best way to develop as you progress.

Mastering the elements, becoming a master of archery, or reaching the heights of alchemy are just a few of the ways you can choose to play the game. If you get lonely throughout your travels in Erinn, you can also find company in one of the many pets available in the game. Just note that, although there are free pets available, paying a bit more grants you an incredibly varied selection.

Mabinoki is certainly one of the best free games like RuneScape available right now, and it’s hard to summarise how good the game is. You simply have to try it to believe it.

Play Mabinogi online for free.

albion-online-gameplay-9096030 Albion Online Gameplay

Albion Online is a free MMORPG developed by the German game studio Sandbox Interactive. With the game now being free-to-play, Albion Online offers a lot of fun and the medieval fantasy setting provides a rich environment for the game.

Grinding and levelling up in the game is rewarding and provides a good balance of skill and patience. The PvP is competitive, and it can be incredibly exhilarating to loot some high quality equipment from felled foes.

The developers ran into criticism when the game was first released, with a lot of people feeling that you could only get so far without purchasing extras. This is something that has got better over time, and it is certainly possible to reach the high levels for free. Granted, you’ll get there faster with premium items, and those who do want to get there faster will be contributing to the maintenance of the game, too.

For those who prefer the PvE aspect of MMOs, Albion Online has good variety. It’s fairly easy to be good at it, but mastering PvE requires some skill – you may have to plan how you’ll tackle a dungeon in order to get through it in the most efficient way.

All in all, Albion Online is a great choice for those looking for games like RuneScape, and is well worth trying if you’re looking for a medieval fantasy MMORPG.

Play Albion Online for free.

black-desert-online-gameplay-1355683 Black Desert Online Gameplay

If you’re looking for a really great MMORPG game to play, you can’t do much better than Black Desert Online. There’s no denying that the audience is divided when it comes to BDO, but this may help to scratch that RuneScape itch you can’t shake.

To address one issue right away – many people think that BDO is a pay-to-win game, but that really isn’t the case. You can pretty much have a complete MMO experience for free in BDO, with the exception being access to pets. There are some pets available for free (Kalis’ Delphi, Bartali’s Buster, etc.), but to access a wider variety you’ll have to make a purchase, albeit a small one.

BDO has excellent PvE and PvP, with the former allowing you to tackle more challenging enemies as your level progresses throughout the game, and the latter providing a nice opportunity to test your newly looted gear out with fellow players.

Other pros for BDO – it has great combat (perhaps the best within the MMO genre), excellent character customization, impressive visuals, and a vibrant and friendly community.

BDO is certainly one of the best games like RuneScape to try right now.

We hope you enjoyed reading about these free games like RuneScape. If there are any other games you think would be a good fit for this list, please let us know in the comment section below.

Perhaps, nothing can quite live up to Old School RuneScape, but it never hurts to try something new.  You may also want to check out some of the best free RPG games for the PC.

5 Free Dungeon Crawlers for Android https://blogofgames.com/5-free-dungeon-crawlers-for-android/ Mon, 19 Oct 2020 14:14:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=250 Roguelike games are enjoying something of a resurgence in recent years, as more and more people appreciate their replay value and rewarding gameplay progression style.

Fans of the genre will know that there have been some great console and PC dungeon crawlers in recent times, but not many will know about the games that can be enjoyed on mobile and tablet devices. With that being said, here are 5 free dungeon crawlers for android that you can play right away.

5. Hoplite

Hoplite Android Gameplay

Hoplite may look simple, but it is far from easy. In fact, Hoplite is an Android dungeon crawler that requires a fair amount of strategy, patience, and foresight if you want to succeed. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it Hoplite is as enjoyable as it is challenging.

The game is a turn-based strategy, and much importance is placed on the movements you make within the procedurally generated maps. Fans of tactical warfare will very much enjoy Hoplite, and this simple dungeon crawler also comes with a nice design and good music. There is a premium version, too, but you can enjoy the game fully with the free version with plenty of items and, unlocks, and upgrades available.

Play Hoplite on Android.

4. Pathos: Nethack Codex

Pathos Nethack Codex Android Gameplay

If you’re after a challenging roguelike game, look no further than Pathos. Inspired by the 1987 classic roguelike Nethack, this android adventure game tasks players with delving deep into the dungeon to overcome the dangers that dwell within.

At times, Pathos feels brutally hard, but that’s really what gives the game such incredible replay value – an attribute that is perhaps its best feature. Pathos won’t win any awards for outstanding visuals, but it doesn’t need to. Everything that it sets out to do it achieves masterfully – easy UI and controls, tons of variety in races and classes, and no ads or deceiving paywalls.

Everytime you play Pathos, you’ll get a little better at it, and once you hit a nice rhythm, you’ll find yourself getting further with each run.

Play Pathos: Nethack Codex on Android.

3. Void Tyrant

Void Tyrant Android Gameplay

Void Tyrant is a strategic deck-building game that brings something different to the android dungeon crawler scene. At the start of each run, you get to choose from one of four classes, each of which has their own advantages and shortcomings, but each with the potential to build a powerful assortment of cards.

In total, there are over 500 cards to play with, and with a tactical approach you will quickly get the hang of the gameplay as you battle your way around the colorful universe in order to reclaim the Eye of Chronos. The enemies are weird and wonderful, with an impressive amount of variation. Some are easier than others, but once you’ve tailored your deck to suit your style, you should be well on your way to defeating the toughest opponents.

Some users report that the ads can get a bit annoying, but that really is a small price to pay for getting a great card-based dungeon crawler for free on Android. Graphically, the game is solid too, with nice visuals that truly immerse you in the wacky universe. This is one for those who like a lot of variety and deep strategy in their roguelike gameplay.

Play Void Tyrant on Android.

2. Yet Another Pixel Dungeon

YetAnotherPD Android Gameplay

Yet Another Pixel Dungeon is an android roguelike game that has a good balance of strategy, skill and fortune. Developed by ConsideredHamster, this is a game that has improved exponentially since its first release with numerous updates and improvements.

You may already know Pixel Dungeon (another great free dungeon crawler for android devices), and YetAnotherPD was borne out of the intention to improve on the original. It has taken on a life of its own, though, and is a separate entity in the best way possible.

The game is completely free, too, something that is quite remarkable when you consider how much effort and devotion has clearly gone into its development. It is also absent of microtransactions and ads. Of course, that doesn’t automatically make this a great game, but so many other attributes do. Be it the nostalgic inducing retro visuals, the variety of upgrades and items, or the different dungeons that you can explore, YetAnotherPD is undoubtedly one of the best free dungeon crawlers for android that you can find right now.

Play Yet Another Pixel Dungeon on Android.

1. Soul Knight

Soul Knight Android Gameplay

When I first played Soul Knight I couldn’t believe how good it was for a free android dungeon crawler. It’s got everything you want in a game for the genre – challenges, synergies, different game modes, and unique characters. Not only that, Soul Knight is one of the best visual roguelikes in the mobile domain and it has a certain quirkiness that is hard not to find endearing.

In total, there are almost 300 weapons, an array of procedurally generated dungeons, and NPCs that you are able to interact with in a number of ways. One feature that works particularly well for an android dungeon crawler game is the auto-aim system that it operates. It’s a godsend for mobile roguelike gaming.

In terms of aesthetics, the game has a Enter the Grungeon feel to it that really works well, with lots of vibrant colors and visual explosions of coordinated chaos. The gameplay is smooth and it seems that the developers (ChillyRoom) have packed an awful lot of action into a relatively small game.

As with most of the free android dungeon crawlers in this list, there is the option to augment your gaming experience by purchasing extra characters, upgrades, and new content. This is not necessary to enjoy the game, though, there is plenty of content to be getting on with without spending a single penny.

Play Soul Knight on Android.

Between games like The Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells, and Enter the Gungeon, there’s something out there for everyone.

Yet, sometimes these games can be a bit pricey, and you may not have too much time to sink your teeth into one of them either. Luckily, there are a host of free online dungeon crawlers that you can play through your browser, meaning you can come and go at will without getting too involved. In no particular order, here are 5 online browser dungeon crawler games that you can try right now.

5. Wondrous Lands

Wondrous Lands Online Gameplay

In Wondrous Lands, players get to explore a randomly generated world in which you can upgrade your heroes with bountiful items and equipment, and unleash chaos on the more than 150 enemies found in the game. You’ll want to choose your weapons wisely, though, and planning for a fight with a dragon may require more preparation than a fight with a goblin.

For a free game, Wondrous Lands really does offer a lot. The number of different learnable abilities is impressive, with over 100 available to augment your team of 3. Moreover, the combat is smooth and contains dynamics such as fear that make it more realistic.

Perhaps the best thing about Wondrous Lands, though, is its colorful and vivacious artstyle – it’s a real treat to behold.

4. DCSS

DCSS Online Gameplay

Dungeon Crawler Stone Soup, or DCSS for short, is perhaps the most complex of all the browser games in this list. In fact, for the amount of detail that’s in this game, it’s hard to believe that it’s available to play for free online.

A popular and well known game within the roguelike scene, DCSS tasks players with guiding their champions through the dungeon to retrieve the “Orb of Zot”. As you’d expect, getting there is no easy feat. It requires thought, strategy, and a dash of luck to succeed, and that is what makes the game so good.

The species of the character that you choose at the beginning of the game determines what skills you will have at your disposal, some may initially specialize in magic, while others are better at melee attacks. As things stand, there are 27 species to choose from, each of them unique.

DCSS still has a vibrant and loyal fanbase, and if you haven’t played it yet, we recommend that you do, it is easily one of the strongest flash dungeon crawler games around.

Play DCSS online here.

3. Rogue Fable III

Rogue Fable III Online Gameplay

If you’ve played the first two Rogue Fable titles then you’re in for a treat with this one. Rogue Fable III is basically a better and more in-depth version than its predecessors. Even if you’re new to the series you will enjoy it.

Developed by Pixel Forge Games, Rogue Fable 3 plays like a traditional dungeon crawler roguelike and requires players to explore the randomly generated Dungeon of Dread in search of fortune and riches. You can choose between 7 races and 10 base classes, and there are well over 100 different types of enemies for you to overcome with a wide array of weaponry and abilities. Among other things, you can challenge your inner necromancer and raise the dead to aid your quest, or you can rank your way through enemies by building a robust warrior.

A major plus for Fable III is the variety of dungeon rooms that are available. One moment you are in a spooky crypt, and the next you could be sweating your way through a burning volcano. Rogue Fable 3 is certainly an online dungeon crawler that you should try if you are a fan of the genre.

2. Inishie Dungeon

Forward is a neat little deck-building dungeon crawler a la Slay the Spire but without the frilly graphics. That shouldn’t deter you though, Forward is as addictive as it is enjoyable and it’s easy to forget the time as you battle your way through the randomly generated enemies.

Indeed, your foe is dependent on which dungeon type you find yourself in. Battle giant trees in the forest, or come up against evil cacti in the desert. Whatever you do, though, make sure you position yourself wisely to upgrade with shields or potions, otherwise you may struggle come the big boss showdown. You start with one all-rounder hero, but there is the chance to unlock 3 other characters as you gain more points, each with their own distinct ability.

5 Online Games That Improve Concentration https://blogofgames.com/5-online-games-that-improve-concentration/ Wed, 30 Sep 2020 14:40:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=388 Video games are often in the news for the wrong reason, and there have indeed been many controversial games over the years that have brought the industry into disrepute.

Yet, the good outweighs the bad by far, and games can provide hours of innocent fun and benefit your mental health and overall wellbeing. In fact, the Frontiers in Human Neuroscience journal published a study in 2018 that found concentration could be improved by playing 1 hour of video games everyday. Here we take a look at 5 online games that can improve concentration.

5. Sudoku

Play Sudoku Online

It’s been known for a while now that playing Sudoku makes you smarter. In fact, this effect becomes more relevant the older you get. A study in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry showed that adults over the age of 50 demonstrate better brain function when they took part in puzzle games such as a sudokus. This study was performed on a large scale, too, with almost 20 thousand participants. Scientists discovered that test scores measuring memory, concentration, and attention span all improved depending on the number of puzzle games they took part in.

Although the results speak for themselves, some have questioned the interpretation of results. Other researchers suggest that those with higher cognition levels may seek out puzzle games, as opposed to the other way around. That being said, most are in agreement that games like sudoku do improve brain health.

It certainly won’t hurt to try! Play Sudoku online.

4. Braingle

Play Kakuro Online

Braingle is a bit of an all-in-one brain training program that has many online games that can help improve your concentration. The games include Kakuro (a Japanese numbers puzzle game similar to sudoku), chess, werewolf, and dozens more.

These kinds of mental gymnastics go a long way to reducing boredom and increasing memory power, and are the types of games you need to play regularly if you want to keep in the best cognitive shape possible. Visit Braingle here.

3. Daily Crossword

Daily Crossword Online

Of all the games in this list, crosswords are the most ubiquitous. Most people enjoy a good crossword, and they can make endlessly long journeys pass by in seconds. Now, crosswords can even be played online if you’re looking for a quick game to improve your focus.

Playing a crossword every day can enhance your memory immeasurably as it forms and strengthens connections in our brains that boost attention span and focus. They are good for people of all ages, and can be particularly useful for those with neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

For an extra edge, you could even try doing crosswords in a second language. This would turbo charge your memory strength while also providing a useful skill at the same time.

Play a daily crossword here to keep yourself sharp.

2. Queendom

One of the more lighthearted Queendom tests

Queendom is a website run by a high-tech psychometric company that specializes in psychological assessments and interactive self-exploration exercises. As with the aforementioned Braingle, Queendom is not a single game, but rather a database of useful assessments and games that boost concentration or uncover utilizable information about your psyche that you can employ for real world benefits.

Among other things, Queendom allows you to take personality tests that tell you your emotional intelligence, analytical reasoning, learning style, and listening skills, among others. Moreover, it has a range of fun tests that lightheartedly allude to whether or not you make a good neighbor, if are a drama queen, and how metrosexual you are.

At the start of this article I wrote about a study that showed that gaming for an hour a day can drastically improve your brain health and cognitive function. I bet not many of you thought that the study was referring to games such as League of Legends.

Yet, it’s true. Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games (MOBAs) have been strongly linked to high intelligence. The research found that good performances on IQ tests were very strongly correlated with time spent playing League of Legends and other similar games. More specifically, according to the research, the better your performance in MOBAs, the more likely you were to demonstrate higher intelligence.

MOBAs are a type of strategy in which each player controls one character that they augment throughout the course of the game. Each character has a unique set of skills and can be tailored to suit the team’s overall strategy. The combination of characters can be complex, and it is hardly surprising that success in the game is correlated with high cognition.

There are many popular MOBAs in circulation, such as Dota 2, Smite, and Heroes of Newerth. For me, League of Legends is the best MOBA, but you may have to play around a bit first to find the one you like. Play the League of Legends online here.

The Best Free Online Racing Games https://blogofgames.com/the-best-free-online-racing-games/ Thu, 09 Jan 2020 14:13:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=356 A true gamer is really the one who enjoys every genre in the gaming world and, within these genres, racing games hold a very special place. In the past, we’ve had some of the greatest racing games like Forza Horizon 4, Need for Speed Most wanted and many more like them that really made a difference by attracting thousands of gamers who weren’t interested in racing games.

But we’ve heard enough about these AAA titles so now it’s about time we should talk about some of the best racing games that won’t cost you a penny. There are many free games out there but which are the ones that will make you fall in love with them? Hold tight because today, We will be counting down our pick for some of the best free online racing games!

Forza 6 Apex PC

What’s better than playing a AAA title for free? Good news, you can enjoy Forza 6 Apex on your PC. But, obviously, you will need a high-end PC equipped with at least Nvidia’s GTX 750Ti to enjoy this ultimate 4k driving experience.

The game looks absolutely stunning with scenic tracks backed with mind-blowing customization options, off-roading and much more – and with 4k support, it looks even better. Forza 6 Apex is like a mini version of any AAA title but it has only a few limitations.

Forza 6 Apex has over 60 cars and 6 maps which you can unlock throughout the game with the medals that you earn when you win a race. This game is definitely on the top when it comes to free racing games because you simply cannot ask for anything better than a Forza. If you’re looking to have a great time then, Forza 6 Apex will not disappoint you.

Need For Speed World Gameplay

The NFS franchise is the most famous gaming franchise in the world when it comes to racing games and they don’t need any intro because the whole world is familiar with their work. With the likes of Need for Speed Most Wanted – and over 14 more instalments – they have been making a buzz since their first day in the gaming industry and has become one of the greatest franchises of all time.

A Need For Speed game usually costs you some bucks, but one of their instalments (released back in 2010) called ‘Need for Speed World’ is free to play – unfortunately, though, it’s only available on Microsoft Windows.

Need for Speed World has a lot to offer which includes a large number of cars and a number of different customization options. If you’re into online racing games then this will be definitely worth your time.

TrackMania Nations Forever Gameplay

Trackmania Nation Forever is another great title when it comes to free racing games, TNF was released back in 2007 and since then, the game has accumulated millions of players and hundreds of tracks around the world where you can enjoy the ultimate racing experience.

Unlike most racing games, TrackMania Nation Forever is completely free and you can download the game directly from steam. TrackMania Nations Forever has really good content and has a lot to offer I would strongly suggest you play this one. Once again, TrackMania Nations Forever is only available for Microsoft Windows.

Victory – The Age of Racing Gameplay

Victory: The Age of Racing is an online racing game which lets you race drivers around the world with some solid mechanics and scenic tracks backed with many customization options. This game features a unique system that lets you build cars from scratch and this aspect makes this game one of its kind.

The standard version of Victory: The Age of Racing is available on steam for free but the deluxe version comes with a price of $7 with some extra perks.

Copa Petrobras de Marcas Gameplay

You cannot expect a completely solid performance from every free game that you can get your hands on, and Copa Petrobras De Marcas perhaps falls short when compared to some of the other games on this list. That being said, it’s still a great free online racing game offered by the respected Reiza Studios game developer. There are a flaws and limitations in this game but it’s still considered a good racing game and chances are that you will enjoy this one.

Copa Petrobras De Marcas does not have many tracks or much customization option that makes this game interesting but the game has some good driving experience to offer and graphics are quite good which makes this game appealing to gamers around the world. You can download the game for free on Steam.

RaceRoom Gameplay

I would think twice before calling a free game a ‘masterpiece’, but I would definitely use it for this fantastic racing game – ‘RaceRoom’. This game has some of the best graphics I’ve ever seen in a free racing game complete with an excellent driving system. However, you can only have a limited amount of content in the free version of this game but you can always buy the DLCs to unlock more tracks and vehicles.

Unfortunately, RaceRoom is only available for Microsoft Windows and you will at least need GTX 450 along with 30gb of free space to run this game. despite its lack of content, I think that it’s worth your time and you must definitely check this one out.

Live For Speed Gameplay

Live For Speed is an online car simulator game that allows you to experience driving in the first-person mode to allow you to enjoy the realism of racing on the most incredible tracks around the world. This game was made by the 3-man team back in the 2000’s so there are many dated features in the game. Yet, despite the lack of budget and manpower, the developers did a great job on this one and people are still playing this game and it’s almost 2020.

Live For Speed is only available on PC  and you don’t even have to own a pretty one,  you can almost play this game on any PC. Live For Speed is not entirely free, you can only have a couple of cars and only one track with the free version but you can always buy the premium version to unlock more tracks and cars. The microtransactions are really annoying but the developers have to make money from somewhere.

Asphalt Extreme Gameplay

Asphalt franchise is probably the second most played franchise when it comes to racing games. With over 15 instalments, the Asphalt franchise provides you with the best arcade racing experience. Asphalt Extreme is an online racing game with hundreds of tracks around the world and vehicles from almost every brand.

This game provides you with an opportunity to challenge drivers around the world with the most famous cars in your arsenal. Asphalt Extreme is completely free but you see many ads that might annoy you – but it’s definitely worth playing and you will enjoy every second of it.

Asphalt 8 Airborne Gameplay

Asphalt games are most famous for their incredible performance on Android and IOS devices but in case you haven’t heard, Some of these games are actually available for your PC and one of them is Asphalt 8: Airborne.

Much like others, Asphalt 8 is another online arcade game that provides you with the experience that you can only get by playing the Asphalt franchise. Asphalt8: Airborne’s multiplayer mode is quite smooth and it is fun to play. Unfortunately, Asphalt8: Airborne is only available on Windows 8.1. However, The game is very fascinating and you’ll enjoy every second you put into this game.

The Crew Demo Gameplay

Last but not least, ‘The Crew’ developed by Ubisoft is an amazing racing game packed with a number of vehicles, challenges and number of different terrains that will challenge your driving ability.

Ubisoft is not famous when it comes to racing games but they did a pretty good job on this one and it was appreciated around the globe. The Crew is not actually free but you can always enjoy its demo version which you download from Steam without shedding a penny.

When it comes to free games, you may encounter many flaws and limitations, but we all should try these games to support the developers who invested hundreds of hours into making these games a reality and, with a budget next to nothing, they definitely should be praised for their dedication.

In the end, I’d really suggest you give these games a try because all of them have the potential to become your favorite free racing game!

That’s all folks! Enjoyed our content? Let us know in the comments below!

The 5 Best Free PS4 Games https://blogofgames.com/the-5-best-free-ps4-games/ Wed, 19 Dec 2018 15:06:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=297 Here at Blog of Games, we love our free games. I mean… who doesn’t? (Check out some free online horror games here). But with so many options out there, it can be hard to find the ones that are truly worth playing.

When it comes to the PlayStation 4, there are a fair amount of free games to choose from, so we sieved through them and found the best ones. Here is our list of the 5 best free PS4 games.

5. Warframe

Warframe is an online third-person shooter game that was first released in 2013 by game developer Digital Extremes. When it was first released, the game didn’t pick up too much traction with PS4 users, but has since developed over the years to become one of the best free PS4 games available. With the recent Plains of Eidolon expansion pack, and with more expansions planned in the future, the developers of Warframe keep the game contemporary and enjoyable to play for their ever-growing community.

Players take on the role of an ancient warrior, Tenno, who is an adept combatant with various weapons and suits that each offer different perks and strengths. Tenno belongs to an ancient species that are experiencing a resurgence in the solar system as they attempt to supress the rise of enemy species seeking to destroy the world. The suits and weapons that the character uses can be upgraded throughout the course of the game as you level up.

Warframe missions can be played with up to three other online players or be completed alone (not recommended!). It is wise to team up with other players if you want to progress further in the game and level up faster. Within a team of people with different skills and attributes, you can coordinate some impressive chains of attacks in order to defeat enemy targets.

As far as free PS4 games go, you can’t do too much better than Warframe, particularly if you’re a fan of third-person shooter games. The online community is a friendly and lively one and it is well worth checking out this game if you are looking for some of the best free ps4 games around at the moment.

4. Neverwinter

Neverwinter is a free MMORPG game that was developed by Cryptic Studios and made available to PlayStation 4 users in 2016. The game is part of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

In Neverwinter, players create their protagonist from a choice of eight different classes taken from the Dungeons & Dragons series and explore the eponymous city of Neverwinter. The main aim of the game is to defeat the rising dead that have become more prevalent following the disappearance of the Lord of Neverwinter, leaving the city in a state of unrest and chaos.

This MMORPG has a huge world for the player to explore, which has an impressive number of quests within it to complete. The combat in the game is sharp, fast, and fluid, and generally follows the same fighting system as other games in the genre – basic attacks, supercharge attacks, daily abilities, etc. Neverwinter also has a crafting system that seems complex at first, but quickly becomes familiar and a great way to forge powerful items that you can use to your advantage in combat.

One of the best features of this game is its fealty to the free-to-play concept, and the game is completely playable without the need to other make any in-game purchases, unless you want to upgrade your mounts and companions to have an extra edge over other players. This, and the fact that there is so much game time, truly make this one of the best free PS4 games to play at this moment and is a game that we can recommend with confidence.

3. Star Trek Online

Star Trek Online is an MMORPG game that was developed by Cryptic Studios and made available to PS4 users in 2016. The game is set 30 years after the film Star Trek: Nemesis and has been going strong in the MMORPG genre for almost a decade since its original Microsoft Windows release.

In the game, players must first decide which faction to play alongside – Klingon, Starfleet, or Romulan. Then, the player is given command of their own ship, from which they are able to “beam down” to numerous locations within the Star Trek universe.

The combat in Star Trek Online takes place both in space and on the ground, the latter of which are fast-paced missions that can be over in a flash if executed properly. Space combat, on the other hand, is a more long-winded and tactical process in which the player has to plan properly in order to defeat enemy capital ships and their captains.

The games story is really what makes Star Trek Online one of the best free PS4 games to play right now. Without giving too much away, the storyline is loyal to the franchise and you will discover places and faces that are recognisable from the series, which make the game especially enjoyable for the Trekkies out there. Yet, being a fan of Star Trek is not essential to enjoy the game, and we recommend that all MMORPG fans should give this game a try.

2. Fortnite Battle Royale

When people talk about Fortnite, it quickly becomes evident that the game is a marmite-esque love it or hate it title that strongly divides gamers. Though, I don’t seem to fall into either category. I enjoy the game, but I don’t love it. Nor do I hate it. One thing is for sure though, this game is great fun and fully worthy of a place on any list of the best free PS4 games available right now.

Fortnite was released in 2017 by Epic Games and was part of the booming 100 player battle royale system that was brought into the mainstream initially by PUBG. Fortnite Battle Royale has attracted huge attention, gathering more that 125 million annual players and influencing contemporary culture in various ways.

In the game, players battle against other online users in teams ranging from 1 to 4 people. Every player begins the game without a weapon and must scavenge the land in which they are dropped into on the map in search for resources, weapons, and items.

To ensure that the game doesn’t become stagnant, an incoming storm encircles the map, shrinking it intermittently to the point where it becomes impossible to avoid other players – the last squad standing wins. The graphics are smooth, stylish, and colorful, and the game definitely has its own distinct personality

Despite being a polarizing game, it is one that can provide hours of enjoyment, particularly if you want to get good at it (it took me a few hours to even get my first kill…). The scavenge and hunt aspect of the game also adds a sense of fulfilment to your progress. If you haven’t tried this game yet, we highly recommend you do and see what all the hype is about – you’re not forced to like it, but it’s free so… why not?

1. Paladins

Paladins: Champions of the Realm is an online shooter game developed by Hi-Rez and released for the PlayStation 4 in 2018. The game has received critical acclaim and has been compared to Overwatch and Team Fortress 2.

The game takes the format of a 5 vs 5 hero battle in which players customize their character in various ways to give themselves a unique set of perks and attributes for the benefit of their combat abilities. In total, there are 26 hero characters to choose from, and all of them are great in their own way.

A great aspect of the game is that each character is adaptable through the use of the card loadout system. At the beginning of every battle, players choose a pre-set that contains 5 out of a total of 16 cards, with each card altering the characters stats and abilities. Experimenting with the loadouts is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game and you can spend hours just trialling the different options that are best for your style.

A reasonable array of different maps and battle formats make this game one of our 5 best free PS4 games and its fast-paced action and character customization make it a ‘must try’ for fans of the online shooter genre and anyone else looking for a free game to attempt.
