A lot of the games on this list still get spoken about today in conversations about the best ever multiplayers. But what are the best 4-player N64 games? We’ve had a go at ranking the top 5. Let us know if you agree in the comment section!

What are the best guns in Perfect Dark?

What are the best-selling games ever released for the N64?

WWF No Mercy N64 Gameplay

As wrestling games go, WWF No Mercy is the gold standard for me. At a time when wrestling was enjoying peak popularity and wrestling games were being released willy nilly, No Mercy really stood out from the crowd with an impressive roster of 65 superstars, different types of wrestling matches such as hell-in-a-cell and ladder matches, and a legitimately impressive array of moves that were fully customizable.

It’s predecessor (Wrestlemania 2000) was a phenomenal game in its own right, but if you had to pick one of the two, I’d always recommend No Mercy. If you really want to have some multiplayer fun, get a few controllers and jump into a tag-team ladder match. The carnage is real.

There’s no doubt that No Mercy is one of the best 4-player N64 games that you can get your hands on. If you’re a fan of grappling games, check out some other great wrestling games for the N64.

Perfect Dark N64 Gameplay

Often seen as the spiritual successor to GoldenEye, Perfect Dark is a truly fantastic game and many believe it to have the best multiplayer action of all the games for the Nintendo 64.

With the option of splitting the screen 4 ways, and customizing your own battle arena with AI sims of different difficulty levels, you could really make this game your own. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy mowing down hordes of meat sims?

The single player mode in Perfect Dark was also much better than it had any right to be. With a well-written story, charming characters, and a friendly alien called Elvis, there’s really not a lot that can be disliked. Perfect Dark is easily up there with the best 4-player N64 games.

Gauntlet Legends N64 Gameplay

Although Gauntlet Legends was not too well received by the critics, for me it is one of the most fun games for the console and a real blast when it comes to 4-player N64 games.

You can play as a warrior, archer, valkyrie, or a wizard. My personal favorite was the valkyrie, as it was a good all-rounder class with good melee and ranged attacks. In multiplayer mode, though, you can combine all the classes together and let the chaos ensue.

Gauntlet Legends also boasts an impressive variety of enemies and diverse levels that will take you to all kinds of environments. If you have never played this game yet, grab a friend and give it a go. You won’t regret it.

Mario Kart N64 Gameplay

Mario Kart is one of the ultimate multiplayer games in all of its iterations, and the Nintendo 64 version is no exception. In the 4-player mode, you have the option of doing a standard race, or a slightly more chaotic battle mode race. Each is equally as fun.

Granted, the game is a little bit ugly graphically, and that puts a lot of people off. But that doesn’t really matter too much, at least for me, when the multiplayer gameplay is such a blast.

There’s a reason why so many love this franchise, and if you’re yet to try any of the games, this a good place to start.

GoldenEye N64 Multiplayer Gameplay

Perhaps the greatest multiplayer game of all time. Everyone of a certain era will have memories of playing GoldenEye, and many of those people will recall hating having to go up against the miniscule Oddjob, who seemed to have a penchant for karate chopping you in the nether regions no matter who was controlling him.

Whether you played as Boris or Bean, Bond or Natalya, everyone had their favorite and most loathed. When it comes to the best 4-player N64 games, you’d be hard pressed to find a better one than the legendary GoldenEye 007.

The 5 Best N64 Racing Games https://blogofgames.com/the-5-best-n64-racing-games/ Tue, 07 Sep 2021 18:06:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=457 The N64 is home to great racing games, but deciding the greatest ones is a divisive topic. Nevertheless, we’ve had a go at choosing the 5 best N64 racing games below. Let us know if you agree with our choices in the comment section.

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer – N64 Gameplay

Developer: LucasArts

N64 year of release: 1999

The Phantom Menace is not everybody’s cup of tea when it comes to the Star Wars franchise (I loved it, personally), but the racing games that were borne out of the newly introduced podracing were most certainly a hit.

This one for the N64 was particularly great. Podracers are made up of two giant engines that float above the ground, are held together by an energy field, and are guided by the pilot who sits in the cockpit behind them.

As you could imagine, they are notoriously difficult to ride, and can reach exceptionally high speeds. Star Wars Episode 1 : Racer does a fantastic job of conveying their cumbersome nature and high speeds. You really do feel like you’re speeding around the track at 500 km/h when the environment whizzes past you in the blink of an eye.

The controls are smooth, the Star Wars music is awesome as always, and the gameplay is addicting. All in all, this is easily one of the best N64 racing games around.

Rush 2 Extreme Racing USA – N64 Gameplay

Developer: Atari Games

N64 year of release: 1998

Rush 2 is a solid racing experience that improves on its predecessor, San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing. In total there are 20 unique cars, 10 racing tracks, and a number of game modes that add to the versatility of the game.

In Rush 2, there is more racing and less exploration than the original, and that helps the game in a lot of ways. The tracks are designed better and are more cohesive, allowing experience to really be a major factor in improving your race times. Many tracks do still have secret routes, though, so there are plenty of off-route diversions to be had for those that are that way inclined.

The game includes a stunt track, too. So if you can’t quite get your fill of stunts during the many opportunities found throughout the tracks, there is a designated track designed for practising all the best moves.

Graphically, the game is great for its time, and the smooth controls make for a realistic driving experience. Of all the Rush games for this console, this is the one that challenges as one of the best N64 racing games ever made.

Wave Race 64 – N64 Gameplay

Developer: Nintendo EAD

N64 year of release: 1996

As jet-ski racing games go, you can’t get much better than Wave Race 64. This game has it all, fun courses, realistic movement physics, and a charming aesthetic.

Wave Race 64 has some incredible water physics that still stands up well today. When you consider the era of its release, the effects were truly mind blowing at the time. It’s not just the water that carries this game graphically, though, the whole package is good. The textures of the racers, the background settings, and the skies all add up to make this one of the best looking games for the Nintendo 64.

In terms of gameplay, there are multiple modes to choose from, and each of them is great in its own right. Like Rush 2, Wave Race 64 has a stunt mode where you can test out your skills on the water. There is also a Championship, Time Trial, and 2-player mode.

If you’re looking for the best N64 racing games, I can’t recommend this one enough.

Mario Kart 64 – N64 Gameplay

Developer: Nintendo EAD

N64 year of release: 1996

There’s not really much I can say about Mario Kart 64 that hasn’t been said already. Simply put, it is one of the best racing games of all time and, in my opinion, is the best of all the Mario Kart entries to the series.

It has some of the best music in the series and has solid graphics, music, AI, and controls. What really makes the game though are the courses. It has some of the best tracks going. Rainbow Road stands out as a particular favorite for me, but it’s not for everyone.

Everyone looking for the best N64 racing games will no doubt have already played Mario Kart 64, so let’s move onto the final game.

Diddy Kong Racing – N64 Gameplay

Developer: Rare

N64 year of release: 1997

It’s not uncommon to hear audible groans whenever Diddy Kong Racing is mentioned. It is notoriously difficult. There’s no getting away from that fact, either, it is hard. It took a while for me to warm up to the game because of this, but when I returned to it for a second go, I truly fell in love with it, and honestly consider it to be the best N64 game around.

Diddy Kong Racing is equal parts great atmosphere, great gameplay, and great music. With a bit of practice, the slightly awkward controls become manageable and the difficulty becomes fair.

One of the best aspects of the game is the introduction of the plane and hovercraft, which felt truly unique compared to other games in the genre and made racing some of the tracks a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Overall, Diddy Kong Racing perhaps wasn’t as successful as it could have been, and for me it is most definitely one of the best N64 racing games ever made.

Whittling down the best N64 racing games to only 5 titles was very challenging, and I’m sure that there are some games missed here that will turn a few heads. In that instance, I challenge you to do the same. Let me know your favorite racing games for the N64 in the comment section below!

How to Beat Bowser in Super Mario 64? https://blogofgames.com/how-to-beat-bowser-in-super-mario-64/ Sat, 04 Sep 2021 18:38:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=476 Super Mario 64 is easily one of the best Mario games of all time, and one of the most fun aspects to the game are the boss battles. To complete the game, you’ll have to beat Bowser three times in total, each time providing a different battle experience.

Here we’ll go through how exactly to beat all three of them. Read on to learn how to beat Bowser in Super Mario 64.

Grab Bowser by the tail in order to throw him on explosive mines

There are 3 battles against Bowser in Mario 64.

The first encounter is Bowser in the Dark World, a level with many traps, puzzles and enemies. The trapdoor entrance to find the Dark World is behind the Big Star Door on the left of the mezzanine of the main floor of Princess Peach’s Castle.

The second encounter is Bowser in the Fire Sea, the entrance to which is found in the basement level of Mushroom Castle. This battle poses a greater challenge than the previous one.

The final encounter is Bowser in the Sky. This is the final battle of the game and is undoubtedly the trickiest Bowser battle.

Here we will go through all three battles with Mario’s ultimate nemesis. Read on for how to beat Bowser in Super Mario 64.

Bowser in the Dark World – Super Mario 64

To beat the first Bowser in Super Mario 64, you have to learn his movement patterns. This is relatively easy as he moves very slow compared to some of the other bosses.

Once you’ve got a feel for the pace and pattern of Bowser’s movements, start circling around him with the objective of getting behind him to grab his tail. When you eventually grab Bowser by the tail, circle the analog stick to begin swinging the King of the Koopas around and around. When you gain enough momentum, release Bowser from your grasp, timing it so that you hurl him towards one of the mines that encircle the battle arena.

Rinse and repeat. When you have hurt Bowser enough, he will give a short dialogue before escaping, and that will be it until the next encounter.

Bowser in the Fire Sea – Super Mario 64

To get to the second fight with Bowser, there are a few requirements that you must meet first. You will need the Basement Key, the first Star from the Dire Dire Docks level, and a total number of at least 31 Stars. If you have all this already, head to the basement of Peach’s Castle and enter the Fire Sea through the hatch that appears in front of the Blue Portal to the Dire, Dire Docks.

Reaching the Bowser battle requires navigating the many puzzles, twists, and turns in the lava-ridden level, something that is relatively easy but will require patience and timing.

When you finally get to Bowser, the battle is very similar to the first Bowser battle in the sense that you still have to grab him by the tail and hurl him towards the explosive mines at the edges of the fiery arena.

This fight is made more difficult, though, by the fact that Bowser has a few new moves in his arsenal. He can now shoot fireballs towards Mario, and can also unbalance the battle arena platform by slamming his weight down at one end of the arena. When he does this, move to the other end of the platform as quickly as possible to avoid finding yourself in the lava.

After you beat him, he will give you a key to the second floor of Peach’s Castle and challenge you to come and find him there.

Bowser in the Sky – Super Mario 64

The third Bowser fight, and the final battle of the entire game, is the most challenging of all of the Bowser fights, but it is still fairly easy once you know what you are doing.

In order to beat Bowser in the Sky, you must have at least 70 Stars (80 Stars in the DS remake) from the other courses in Peach’s Castle. If you do, then make your way to the top of the endless stairs and into the final stage.

Making your way through the Bowser in the Sky map is like a trickier version of the previous two Bowser maps. Like the others, with a bit of patience and good timing, you should have no problems reaching the final battle.

Once you reach Bowser, the same tactics apply, circle the Koopa King and then grab his tail to chuck him around. It’s a good idea to stay close to Bowser in this battle when circling him, as he moves faster than the previous battles and also makes the platform smaller when hurt. You should also be mindful of Bowser’s wave attack that will ripple towards you. Simply jump over it when this happens.

When you do enough damage to Bowser this time, Bowser will fade into nothingness and you will have completed the game! And that is how to beat Bowwser in Super Mario 64.

Have you completed Mario 64? Do you have any other tips on how to beat Bowser in Super Mario 64? Let us know in the comment section below!

Best Perfect Dark Guns (N64) https://blogofgames.com/best-perfect-dark-guns-n64/ Tue, 27 Jul 2021 20:06:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=535 Perfect Dark is somewhat of a forgotten gem for the N64 these days, but at the time it was a very popular game. For good reason, too. As FPS games go, Perfect Dark is one of the best and most pioneering games of all time.

Anyway, that’s by the by. Here we’re gonna focus on the guns of the game. Of which there are some spectacular ones. But which are the best? Read on for our completely subjective list of the best Perfect Dark guns.

Is Perfect Dark still worth playing today?

Falcon 2 Silenced – Perfect Dark

Sometimes it’s just really fun to go around pretending to be James Bond with a cool-looking silenced pistol, one-shot killing enemies for extra effect.

The Falcon 2 is actually one of the most common guns in the game, but when you add a suppressor it really elevates the fun.

Psychosis Gun – Perfect Dark

The Psychosis Gun is one of the best guns in Perfect Dark purely for the hilarity factor. It’s never not funny to me to watch a once fierce enemy suddenly change allegiances and go on a suicidal rampage in your honor.

What makes it even better is that the ammunition for the Psychosis Gun is completely unaffected by armor.

CMP-150 Perfect Dark

Despite the CMP-150 being a low damage gun, the high accuracy lock-on and rapid fire rate that it provides make it a solid carry no matter the situation.

It has an average shot range and easy-to-find ammo, too. This is one of the best guns in Perfect Dark if you find yourself surrounded by a horde of pesky Meat Sims.

The Phoenix – Perfect Dark

This really the Maian answer to the Falcon 2, but it has a secondary mode that far outshines its pistol brother. What’s not to love about a handgun with explosive bullets?

Rhetorical question, of course. Everyone knows there is nothing to not love about it, and that’s why it is one of the best Perfect Dark guns.

The Cyclone – Perfect Dark

Any enemy that finds themself in front of the Cyclone is in for a world of pain. This sub-machine gun probably has the smoothest reload animation out of all the guns in Perfect Dark

Setting aside the low damage and average accuracy, the Cyclone has one of the fastest rates of fire that melts through large swathes of close range enemies like butter.

RC-P120 – Perfect Dark

This is a secret weapon designed by the Carrington Institute that allows players to utilize its cloaking device to enter invisibility mode.

Anything else I could say about the game would be superfluous and indulgent. The cloaking device alone makes the RC-P120 one of the best Perfect Dark guns.

The Crossbow – Perfect Dark

The Crossbow can be used to either instantly sedate or instantly kill an enemy. It requires skill to use and will take a bit of practice to master. This is why it is one of the best weapons in Perfect Dark, though.

Plus, if you’re a Walking Dead fan like I am, you can channel your inner-Daryl and pretend you’re one-shotting zombie hordes.

The Slayer – Perfect Dark

The Skedar are a beastly and hostile alien nation that should be avoided at all costs. They do, however, design some rather tasty weapons, the Slayer being one of them.

Essentially, it is a rocket launcher, but the secondary ammo also allows you to fire remote controlled missiles that are incredibly satisfying to execute successfully. The only drawback of the Slayer is that it is one of the rarest guns in Perfect Dark

The Laptop Gun – Perfect Dark

A very close second is the Laptop Gun. As an ordinary assault rifle, there is nothing out of the ordinary to behold. Yet, in its secondary mode, this gun can be deployed as a sentry gun in the form of a laptop that unleashes chaos on poor unsuspecting passersby.

It’s always a good time to watch a well-placed Laptop Gun do its thing, and its unique quality makes it one of the best guns in Perfect Dark.

SuperDragon Perfect Dark

The normal Dragon assault rifle is good enough already, but the SuperDragon rifle takes things up a notch.

The super version upgrades the self-destruct proximity mine of the primary model to a grenade launcher, and  if there’s anything more fun than launching powerful and accurate grenades at large groups of foes, we’d love to know. For me, this tops the list of the best Perfect Dark guns.

What is your favorite gun in Perfect Dark? Do you agree with our list? Let us know in the comment section below!

The 5 Best Japanese N64 Games (That Were Exclusive to Japan) https://blogofgames.com/the-5-best-japanese-n64-games-that-were-exclusive-to-japan/ Tue, 13 Apr 2021 17:53:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=446 It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Nintendo 64, and personally feel that it is up there with the best consoles ever made. That being said, there were plenty of games that never made it to the international market and remained exclusive to Japan.

Of the ~400 games that were made for the console, around 100 of them were solely released in the Asian market. Here, we investigate which of these are the best. Read on for the 5 best Japanese N64 games.

The Best Selling Nintendo 64 Games of all time

How do you get Epona in Ocarina of Time?

Dezaemon 3D N64

In Dezaemon 3D, you get to create your own levels. It’s a fun space shooter design game that requires a fair amount of creativity and a little bit of patience, but once you get into it, you can easily sink hours into the game.

You don’t really need to have a strong understanding of Japanese to play this game, but you do need to have a creative mindset, and to make the best of it you’ll do a bit of modelling, texturing, music, and game design.

There is a Tutorial mode that is pretty much useless if you don’t speak Japanese. Instead, you’ll likely want to get straight into it with the Edit mode, and with a bit of trial and error you can end up creating some pretty cool games.

It’s not for everyone, but Dezaemon 3D is up there with the best Japanese N64 games.

Sin and Punishment N64

Sin and Punishment is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to Japanese imports for the N64. Developed by Treasure and Nintendo R&D1, this rail shooter is set in the (then) futuristic time of 2007, when a new species revolts against humans after being developed by scientists to solve world hunger.

Many consider it to be a spiritual successor to Star Fox 64, and while it may not have received the same exposure, it certainly holds up in terms of gameplay. The action is rapid, the intensity is exhilarating, and the overall aesthetic is just downright cool.

If you’re in the market for the best Japanese N64 games, it’s hard to overlook Sin and Punishment

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 – N64

The N64 had some of the best wrestling games ever made. With the likes of Warzone, Wrestlemania 2000, and No Mercy, it would have been easy to miss the Japan-only wrestling game, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2

Made by the same developer of many wrestling games of the era (THQ), the gameplay mechanics will feel familiar to aficionados of the genre. Where the game really stands out, though, is the huge roster and multiple wrestling attires that you can choose from.

A lot of the roster were from the Japanese pro wrestling scene, but there are some internationally known wrestlers for those not familiar with much of the roster.

VPW2 is easily one of the best Japanese N64 games, and not just one for the grappling fans, either.

Bangai-O N64

This is one of the rarest games on the list but it’s easily one of the best Japanese N64 games around. Developed by Treasure, this multidirectional 2D shooter was praised by critics and gamers alike, with particular praise being given for its unique blend of retro aesthetics and chaotic shoot ‘em up action.

A Dreamcast version was released internationally subsequent to the N64 release, and perhaps this is the better known of the two. In either version, you control a weaponized robot which is being controlled by Riki and Mami, the two protagonists of the game.

The aim is to stop criminals from smuggling illegal goods, and to do so you must defeat each of the game’s 44 stages in order to complete the game, with a new boss being presented at every stage.

The story is very much secondary to the gameplay, though, and if you’re just looking to have some good ol’ fashioned action-packed fun, Bangai-O could be the N64 Japanese exclusive for you.

Animal Forest N64

Animal Forest is the very first Animal Crossing game to be released and is the cog that got the wheel turning in the hugely popular and addictive franchise.

Many people don’t even know that it was released for the N64 and believe the GameCube version to be the first in the series. In reality, the GameCube version is an enhanced release of this N64 title.

As with all the other games in the main series, this is a life simulation game in which you play a human character in a town with anthropomorphic animal inhabitants. There are some notable differences to the other main games in the series (no museum, some different animals, fewer house upgrades, etc) but overall the N64 version is a great game and there’s a reason why it received such critical acclaim on initial release.

If you’re a fan of the series, it’s also fun to see how far the game has come to its most recent iterations. Animal Forest is most definitely one of the best Japanese N64 games ever made.

How to Get Epona in the Ocarina of Time Easily https://blogofgames.com/how-to-get-epona-in-the-ocarina-of-time-easily/ Thu, 04 Feb 2021 18:10:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=462 For those of us who grew up with an N64, it’s almost certain that you’ll have played (and fallen in love with) one of the best video games of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

There is much to do in Hyrule as you follow Link around in his quest to stop Ganondorf. Getting around in the game is much easier on horseback, but one of the most asked questions surrounding the game is how to get the much-loved horse, Epona. So, let’s walk through the steps. Here is how to get Epona in the Ocarina of Time.

Related: The all time best-selling Nintendo 64 Games

Epona’s Song with the Ocarina

You have to be an adult before getting Epona, but there is a requirement to get her that you must complete whilst you’re young Link – you must learn Epona’s song.

To learn Epona’s, simply visit Lon Lon Ranch as a child and go straight to the horse pen. There you’ll see Malon, the daughter of the ranch’s owner, Talon. Approach Malon and interact with her, she’ll introduce you to Epona before teaching you Epona’s Song on your Ocarina. This might be etched into the memory of most Ocarina of Time players, but for those who’ve forgotten it, this may jog your memory: ^ < > ^ < >

Lon Lon Ranch – Ocarina of Time

Once you know Epona’s song, getting Epona is pretty straightforward once you turn into adult Link. Just follow these steps.

As soon as you leave the Temple of Time upon becoming an adult, you’ll notice that there has been a lot of change. The market is completely desolate except for a few zombie ‘ReDeads’ that make a horrifying screaming sound, and Hyrule Castle has changed into Ganon’s Castle.

Ignore them for now and make your way to Lon Lon Ranch. If it’s night time, play the Sun Song with your Ocarina to make it day.

Once you’re there, go into the stables to see Malon and she’ll tell you all that has happened in Hyrule while you were gone. Since Ganondorf took over, monsters have begun to roam the lands and a dark cloud hangs over Hyrule. Change can also be at Lon Lon Ranch, too, where Ganondorf has placed the servile Mr Ingo in charge in place of Talon.

Race Mr Ingo at Lon Lon Ranch

After talking to Malon, head outside and over to the pen to talk to Mr Ingo, who will charge you 10 rupees to ride a horse. Accept the 10 rupee charge and enter the 1 minute allowed on the horses.

When the countdown starts, look around the pen for Epona, you’ll notice that she’ll run away from you when you approach her. This is when you’ll need to use your ocarina to play Epona’s Song. Do this, and Epona will be tamed, allowing you to ride her. Test out the controls and get a feel for the controls with the time you have left.

As soon as the time is up, talk to Mr Ingo again and pay the charge to ride the horses again. Play Epona’s Song to regain control of Epona, and go and talk to Mr Ingo whilst you are still in your allotted 1 minute of horse time. He’ll challenge you to a race and place a wager on the outcome. Accept the challenge.

There are two races with Mr Ingo. In the first one, simply race around the pen, using your carrots efficiently. The best way is to just use one at a time, as soon as it replenishes use it again immediately, and then .

The second race is harder as Mr Ingo will cut you off every time you try to overtake him. You still shouldn’t have any problems, though, just wait for one of the corners and use your carrot to burn your way past him as he turns.

Trapped in Lon Lon Ranch

After racing Mr Ingo twice, he’ll go ballistic and reveal that he was training Epona especially for his new master, Ganondorf. He’ll keep his promise of letting you keep Epona for beating him in the second race, but he also vows to never let you leave the ranch!

Luckily, there are a number of different walls you can jump over that allow you to escape the ranch and get Epona on your side forever. Just approach a scalable wall at pace and you will automatically jump over it to force your way to freedom.

And there you have it – Epona is yours!

Lon Lon Ranch Epona Obstacle Course

There is an extra step you can take at Lon Lon Ranch once you get Epona. The next time you return to the ranch Malon will be by the entrance to the pen. If you talk to her, she’ll tell you that her dad is returning and that Mr Ingo has returned to being a nice person.

She’ll then challenge you to an obstacle course. The course is basically the same route as the race, but with hurdles. If you accept the challenge, you’ll have to beat the Lon Lon Ranch obstacle course in under 50 seconds. It’s quite difficult, but definitely possible.

If you do this, Malon will tell you that she’ll deliver your reward to Link’s house in Kokiri Forest. The next time you return to your house, there will be a cow there. Yes, a cow. If you play Epona’s Song to the cow it will give you some of the finest milk in the land – Lon Lon Milk! If that’s not a great reward, I don’t know what is.

Play Epona’s Song to the Cow for a nice reward

That game was incredibly fun and still holds up as one of the best wrestling games of all time. Yet, it wasn’t the only great wrestling game available on that console.

In fact, the N64 was littered with great grappling games. Here are the 5 best N64 wrestling games.

WWF War Zone Cage Match

Perhaps by merit of being the first wrestling game for the Nintendo 64, War Zone just makes it into the top 5. At the time, the game was fantastic, there can be no denying that. The first ever 3D pro wrestling game, a unique grappling system with button combination movies, and some pretty awesome entrance sequences.

There was a decent variety of match modes in War Zone, too. Things could get messy if you went for a Hardcore match, you could keep things simple with standard singles and tag team matches, or you could enter the chaos of a Royal Rumble – the latter of which was an exclusive game mode feature for the Nintendo 64.

In total, there were 18 wrestlers to choose from, including big hitters such as Kane, The Undertaker, The Rock, Triple H, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. There are a whole host of other big names in the roster, all of whom make War Zone a great game and certainly one of the best N64 wrestling games around. It also spawned a worthy successor in WWF Attitude.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2- N64

One of the lesser known wrestling games for the N64 is the Japanese game Virtual Pro Wrestling 2. What a game it is, too. If you’re a fan of Japanese pro wrestling, you’ll love this game for sure, but even those who aren’t familiar with it are in for a treat.

It’s biggest draw is the gameplay, which boasts an impressive array of move-sets and fighting styles. There is a huge roster in VPW2, too, with around 80 wrestlers to choose from in total, and multiple attires to select for each wrestler. Some of the better known names are The Great Sasuke, Kenta Kobashi, and Hayabusa.

Despite a few American legends being included in the game, the roster may be largely unfamiliar if you’re not well-versed in Japanese pro wrestling, but that shouldn’t detract from the game. An all-round brilliant grappling experience VPW2 is easily one of the best wrestling games for the N64.

N64 Fan? Check out how to get Epona in the Ocarina of Time

WCW nWo Revenge – Hollywood Hogan

If you were more of a WCW fan back in the day, then you may regard this as the best N64 pro wrestling game of them all. You wouldn’t be wrong to think so, either. Revenge is the sequel to the 1997 title WCW vs NWO: World Tour and, in a lot of ways, was a much improved version.

A range of new features were included such as ring entrances, ringside managers, a bigger roster, and better graphics, all of which combined to help Revenge become one of the best selling games for the Nintendo 64.

In a well-rounded grappling experience, you can play as the likes of Goldberg, Kevin Nash, and Chris Jericho. There were also a number of fictional characters and a pretty darn good character customisation tool as well. Revenge is up there with the most revolutionary wrestling games to ever be released and is easily one of the best N64 wrestling games around.

WWF Wrestlemania 2000 N64 – The Rock

Wrestlemania 2000 wasn’t perfect, but by gawd (in the voice of Jim Ross) was it fun. It marked the first WWF game published by THQ and developed by AKI and Asmik Ace, after they had all previously worked with a license for the WCW franchise.

Part of what made WrestleMania 2000 so enjoyable was the immense customisation possibilities that the game had. The “Create a Wrestler” mode had so many possibilities that enabled players to either create their own unique character, or even some of the big pro wrestlers that weren’t in the game, such as Hulk Hogan and Taka Michinoku.

There were new game modes, such as the cage and first blood matches, and a signature move system that made executing a Stunner or Tombstone more satisfying than it ever had done before.

The Road to Wrestlemania story mode is difficult, but also incredibly rewarding and the only way to unlock some of the hidden characters like Dude Love, Shawn Michaels, and Paul Bearer.

Try this game if you haven’t, it’s a timeless classic and easily one of the best wrestling games for the N64.

WWF No Mercy Triple H Ring Entrance

There is no doubt that I sunk more hours into WrestleMania 2000 than its successor No Mercy. It’s also undisputable, though, that No Mercy is just a cut above in every department and easily the best N64 wrestling game.

If you ever needed a game to showcase THQs fighting engine to the highest possible level, No Mercy is it. It gets everything right and doesn’t take itself too seriously. In fact, you could argue that all wrestling games since WWF No Mercy have gone downhill, at least proportionate to their respective release dates.

No Mercy is incredibly fun and tops this list of the best N64 wrestling games for precisely that reason. But let’s be honest, the Nintendo 64 was a golden age of gaming for many genres and niches, and this list proves that wrestling was one of them.

We hope you enjoyed reading about the best N64 wrestling games. Did you try all of these? Which one is your favorite? Did we miss your favorite wrestling game for the N64? Let us know in the comment section below!

Perfect Dark (N64) Review https://blogofgames.com/perfect-dark-n64-review/ Tue, 02 Apr 2019 14:03:00 +0000 https://blogofgames.com/?p=344 Perfect Dark is one of the best first-person shooter games to have ever been released and, for many, ranks in the best games of all time due to its fun and revolutionary gameplay, and nostalgia-inducing charm.

Despite being released in 2000, Perfect Dark is still looked on favourably by lovers of retro games and is one that we highly recommend if you are looking for some great Nintendo 64 games. Due to a resurgence in the cyberpunk movement, gamers are revisiting Perfect Dark as they hunt for the best cyberpunk video games of all time. Read on for our Perfect Dark (N64) review.

Developer: Rare

Publisher: Rare

Platform: Nintendo 64

What is Perfect Dark?

What is Perfect Dark?

Perfect Dark is an N64 first-person shooter set in a cyberpunk world that is seen as the spiritual successor to Rare’s highly successful GoldenEye 007.

The game takes place in 2023 and is set in a fictional world in which two alien races – the Maians and the Skedar – are at war. The Skedar are liaising with Cassandra de Vries, the leader of megacorporation dataDyne, to forge a deal that will provide the Skedar with a powerful AI technology, and d1ataDyne with alien technology.

A research and development centre, The Carrington Institute, are the last line of defence for Earth as they collude with the Maians in an attempt to counter the progress of dataDyne through a series of espionage missions.

Perfect Dark received unanimous critical acclaim upon its release, including a 9.9 GameSpot rating and a 9.8 rating with IGN. The game was particularly lauded for its enemy AI, size, cutscenes and multiplayer features. The game’s success led to a 2005 sequel called Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360 but, despite the game being decent, it does not compare to the original.

Although the game is nearly 20 years old now, this Perfect Dark review will attempt to show you why it is still worth playing in the present day.

Perfect Dark – Story

Perfect Dark – Story

Players take on the role of Joanna Dark, an agent for The Carrington Institute, who earned the pseudonym “Perfect Dark” due to impressive scores during her training.

Joanna is sent to investigate the dataDyne corporation and, during her first mission to rescue scientist Dr Caroll, she learns that megacorporation has questionable ethical standards and had betrayed the morals of many of its employees.

Joanna’s missions take her all around the world and she eventually becomes involved in a rescue mission to save the President of the United States after a dataDyne plot to kill him is uncovered.

The plot takes various twists and turns that heavily involve dataDyne and their alien allies, the Skedar. A Scandinavian man known as Mr Blonde enters the story and is revealed as a Skedar in disguise who betrays the dataDyne company.

Joanna’s journey takes her on a journey to the Skedar’s home planet to curb their attempt to test a powerful weapon on Earth, before using it on the Maian race. Agent Dark is assisted by numerous people throughout the mission, including a stereotypically-looking alien called Elvis, a Maian who acts as her companion on various missions.

Perfect Dark – Gameplay

Perfect Dark – Gameplay

For those who have played GoldenEye 007 for the N64, this game will feel comfortingly similar. Rare’s winning first-person shooter formula for their 1997 title needed little tweaking to make Perfect Dark the masterpiece that it is.

Players can crouch, duck, strafe and lean as they attempt to make their way through the missions. The gameplay mechanics allow the player to either burst into maps all guns blazing or take a more stealth-based approach to missions.

Various weapons can be used throughout the game, including pistols, lasers, grenade launchers and rifles, and an unlimited number of guns can be carried at any given time. It is also possible to wield two of the same gun at once.

Each level can be completed at different difficulty levels, with the harder levels unlocking different gameplay modes. It is also possible to unlock cheats by completing different missions within a certain time limit.

In our Perfect Dark (N64) review we believe that, despite the engaging and reasonably intriguing storyline, the game’s replayability comes from its multiplayer element.

Perfect Dark – Multiplayer

Perfect Dark – Multiplayer

The multiplayer modes in Perfect Dark are incredibly fun and we spent countless hours disposing of as many ‘meat sims’ as you could throw at us. One of the multiplayer options is as simple as playing the game on a split-screen with another human player as either your ally or enemy.

But the fun doesn’t end there, the combat simulator mode makes elements of 20 different maps modifiable. You can tailor each arena to how you want it to be, i.e. How many enemies? What level AI are the enemies? How many human players, etc. It is this customization that gave the game so much replay value and gives it the edge over many other first-person shooter titles of the same era.

Perfect Dark – Elvis

Overall, Perfect Dark is an absolute masterpiece that should not yet be archived in the ever-growing pile of ‘forgotten greats’, and hopefully can find some renewed success as gamers continue to look for the best cyberpunk games available at the moment. This one should not be overlooked.

Games like Perfect Dark

If you’ve already played this game and are looking for something similar, there are plenty of other titles out there to try. Here are some other games like Perfect Dark:
